WebP: Google new image format for the Web

WebP is the new image format with lossy compression created by google. Google created as an alternative to JPEG and PNG , with 25–34% better compression compared to JPEG images .The new image format WebP also support for transparency – also known as alpha channel – in both the lossless and lossy modes.
With these new modes, you can now use WebP to compress all types of images on the web. You can use Photographic images smaller file size. Icons and graphics can be encoded better in WebP lossless mode than in PNG. WebP lossy with alpha can be used to create transparent images with smaller in file size. Animations compressed as GIFs can use animation support in WebP. You can download and install the WebP code from the Google code or click the following link

How to move an object at a certain speed in a specific angular direction

You can use some basic trigonometric functions to convert this angle and speed to component x and y velocities. First, you need to make sure the angle is in radians. If the angle is in degrees, convert it by using the following formula:
radians = degrees * Math.PI / 180;
If you ever need to convert the opposite way, use:
degrees = radians * 180 / Math.PI;
Once you have the angle in radians, use the Math.sin and Math.cos functions, along with the speed, to find the x and y velocities, using the following formulas:
vx = Math.cos(angle) * speed; vy = Math.sin(angle) * speed;
Here is an example using 135 degrees and a speed of 4 pixels per frame:
package {
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    import flash.events.Event;
    import flash.events.TimerEvent;
    import flash.utils.Timer;
    public class AngularVelocity extends Sprite {
        private var _sprite:Sprite;
        private var _angle:Number = 135;
        private var _speed:Number = 4;
        private var _timer:Timer;
        public function AngularVelocity (  ) {
            _sprite = new Sprite(  );
            _sprite.graphics.beginFill(0x0000ff, 100);
            _sprite.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, 25);
            _sprite.graphics.endFill(  );
            _sprite.x = 200;
            _sprite.y = 100;
            _timer = new Timer(30);
            _timer.addEventListener("timer", onTimer);
            _timer.start(  );
        public function onTimer(event:TimerEvent):void {
            var radians:Number = _angle * Math.PI / 180;
            var vx:Number = Math.cos(radians) * _speed;
            var vy:Number = Math.sin(radians) * _speed;
            _sprite.x += vx;
            _sprite.y += vy;

How to know display settings for the device using actionscript

You should use the flash.system.Capabilities object to determine the display settings of the device that is playing the movie. The screenResolutionX and screenResolutionY properties return the display resolution in pixels.
// Example output: // 1024 // 768 trace(flash.system.Capabilities.screenResolutionX); trace(flash.system.Capabilities.screenResolutionY);
If you want to load different swf file in mobile and other small resolution devices you can use the following method.
var resX:int = flash.system.Capabilities.screenResolutionX; var resY:int = flash.system.Capabilities.screenResolutionY; if ( (resX <= 240) && (resY <= 320) ) { var url:String = "main_mobile.swf"; } else { var url:String = "main_desktop.swf"; } loader.load(new URLRequest(url));

You want to change the case of a string or perform a case-insensitive comparison in action script

In this post i will help you how to change a string to uppercase,to lower case and also capitalize a first letter of a words.
The "toUpperCase( )" and"toLowerCase( )" methods return new strings in which all the characters are uppercase or lowercase, respectively, without modifying the original string.

you can use toLowerCase( ) or toUpperCase( ) to perform case-insensitive searches within strings

// Displays: flash designer?
trace( ex.toLowerCase( ) );

// Displays: FLASH DESIGNER?
trace( ex.toUpperCase( ) );

// The original string value is unchanged: Flash designer?
trace( example );
//you want to change original string, reassign the return value to it, as follows:

var example:String = example.toLowerCase( );

The following will help you to change the any word for example "DeSigner" into "Designer" to capitalize the first letter of the word.The following is the code in the "main" class

public static function initialcap( theword:String ):String {
return theword.charAt( 0 ).toUpperCase( ) + theword.substr( 1 ).toLowerCase( );

//The following is an example usage of the method:

var example:String = "DeSigner";
trace( StringUtilities.toInitialCap( example ) ); // Displays: Designer

The "initialcap( )" method converts a string to so-called title case (initial letters capitalized).

The following is the definition of the method:

public static function titleCase( originalword:String ):String
var words:Array = originalword.split( " " );
for (var i:int = 0; i < words.length; i++)
words[i] = initialcap( words[i] );
} return ( words.join( " " ) );
//And the following is a sample usage of the method:
var examp:String = " flash designer cochin";
trace( main.titleCase( examp ) );
// Displays: Flash Designer Cochin

How to access the information(id3 property)of the sound file

MP3 audio files are contain metadata about the sound file. This is most often used in music files to record the name of the song, the artist, album, genre, year of release, composer, etc. The information is actually included in these tags depends on who encoded or tagged the file. I think the most of the  cases though, you'll at least get the songname and artist tag.
So, to read the song's name, you would access it as follows:

The following example creates a text field and lists all available id3(information)of mp3 file tags:
package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.media.Sound;
import flash.net.URLRequest;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.text.TextField;

public class disp_ID3 extends Sprite {
private var _sound:Sound;

public function disp_ID3( ) {
_sound = new Sound(new URLRequest("song.mp3"));// the song name you want display the details
_sound.addEventListener(Event.ID3, onID3);
_sound.play( );

public function onID3(event:Event):void {
// Create a text field and display it
var id3Display:TextField = new TextField( );
id3Display.x = 10;
id3Display.y = 20;
id3Display.width = 200;
id3Display.height = 200;
id3Display.background = true;
id3Display.multiline = true;
id3Display.wordWrap = true;

// Add some info about the song to the text field
id3Display.text += _sound.id3.songName + "\n";
id3Display.text += _sound.id3.artist + "\n";
id3Display.text += _sound.id3.album + "\n";
id3Display.text += _sound.id3.year + "\n"; }

Basic Event Listeners and Hadlers Actionscript 3.0

When you run a flash movie every time the mouse is clicked, it dispatches or broadcasts an event.

For example the below image shows an instance of simple button.This button has also been given the instance name of button1 in the Property inspector.

If you select frame 1 of the Actions layer and open the Actions panel, you will notice the following code, which will be responsible for detecting and responding to the CLICK event:
//Event Listerner
//Event Handler
function Clicked(Evt:MouseEvent)
trace("Button1 Clicked");

The first two lines of code demonstrate what is needed for the invocation of the event listener.The second parameter in the addEventListener() method is the name of a function that
will execute when the event is detected, in this case Clicked().

You want to load and playback progressive download Flash video.

The following code constructs a NetConnection object and initializes it for use with progressive download video.This code comes under the flash.net.Netconnection.
var videoConnection:NetConnection = new NetConnection( );
This code constructs a NetStream object
var videoStream:NetStream = new NetStream(videoConnection);
This code constructs a new Video object and then adds it to the display list:
var video:Video = new Video( );
You can associate a NetStream object with a Video object by using the Video object's attachNetStream( ) method, passing a reference to the NetStream object as a parameter to the method:
The NetStream class defines a play( ) method that loads and starts the Flash video playback. The parameter can be a relative or absolute URL.
The full code is :
var videoConnection:NetConnection = new NetConnection( );
var videoStream:NetStream = new NetStream(videoConnection);
var video:Video = new Video( );
